Provide technical support during preparation of pleadings, proofs of evidence and legal briefs

Details


(a) Basic Functions

(i) The Legal Officer has specific responsibility to ensure all clients for legal Aid are properly attended to and when necessary are represented in court.

(ii) The legal officer will also act as the regional coordinator for TAWLA, will ensure TAWLA visibility, quality services to clients and will also mobilize and ensure member’s participation in TAWLA activities in the region.

b) Other duties and responsibilities

(i) Ensure that the organization and its mission, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong, positive image to relevant stakeholders.

(ii) To provide Legal Aid services and to ensure quality service to the clients

(iii) Supervise legal representation to clients who are women

(iv) Provide technical support during preparation of pleadings, proofs of evidence and legal briefs

(v) Undertake programmes and projects related to the organization

(vi) Supervise and provide technical support during undertaking of legal research when necessary

(vii) Coordinate and keep record of all cases/matters handled at the Legal Aid clinics in the region.

(viii) To prepare the Legal Aid roaster and contact members in court and inform the head quarter on the status.

(ix) Prepare regular reports for the organization

(x) To train and sensitize the community leaders, law enforcers, Local Government leaders, religious leaders, community members and women on human rights issues.

(xi) Prepare Annual Work Plan for the office.

(xii) Mobilize resources through proposal writing and other means of fundraising.

(xiii) To prepare the Legal Aid roaster and contact members in court and inform the head quarter on the status.

(xiv) Prepare regular reports for the organization.

(xv) To train and sensitize the community leaders, law enforcers, local government leaders, religious leaders, community members and women on human rights issues.

(xvi) To supervise Outreach Officer, Administrative Secretary, Volunteers and Interns.

(xvii) Undertake any other duties appropriate as may be assigned from time to time.

(c) Entry Requirements and Qualifications

A practicing advocate at law, with at least a degree in Law and a minimum experience of at least 2 years, coupled with a good knowledge of court administration.

(d) Organizational Relationships

(i) Reports to: Head of Access to Justice Department

(ii) Supervises: Legal Officers, Volunteers and Interns

(g) Remuneration

A package within TAWLA’s salary scale will apply as monthly gross amount with a Social Security employer’s contribution as per statutory requirements. A health insurance scheme is also available.
