The International Growth Centre (IGC) directs a global network of
world-class researchers and policy experts in economics, political
economy and related disciplines, and works closely with developing
country governments to provide demand-led policy advice based on
frontier research. Its mission is to promote sustainable growth in IGC
partner countries in Africa and Asia. Based at LSE, and run in
partnership with the University of Oxford, the IGC is initiated and
funded by DFID.
The IGC is seeking Country Economists to be based in a number of its 15
partner country offices, and has current or upcoming vacancies in
several IGC Africa countries including Ghana, Tanzania and Zambia,
though applications will be considered for a pool pending further
opportunities arising.
Country Economists i) represent their respective IGC country team in
connecting researchers and policy specialists engaged in a programme of
research and policy analysis, ii) work on IGC research projects, iii)
support researchers in facilitating research projects, iv) manage
country programme activities including regular reports on
research/policy development in the country, and v) assist in the
development of key IGC dissemination outputs.
Good economics and policy analysis skills, written and oral
communication skills, as well as excellent organisational skills are
essential, as is the ability to work under pressure, both as part of a
team and independently. Applicants should hold a post-graduate degree
(MSc/MPA/MPP) in economics, public policy/administration, development
economics, or a related discipline.
