CHIEF OF PARTY,WILDLIFE TRADE COORDINATION AT RESEARCH TRIANGLE INSTITUTE

Chief of Party, Wildlife Trade Coordination, Southern Africa

Research Triangle Institute (RTI) has over 30 years’ experience assisting governments, communities, and the private sector in managing their environment and natural resources. We have delivered innovative, breakthrough solutions in key development sectors including: forestry, protected area management, climate chance, economic livelihood development, community engagement, and institutional capacity building.

RTI is seeking a Chief of Party for the anticipated USAID-funded Southern Africa Wildlife Trade New Program Coordination project. This project will support the implementation and management of 4 or 5 cooperative agreements under a new Southern Africa regional program on combatting wildlife crime through: 1) Coordination of regional capacity building programs and conducting regional studies on wildlife crime and trade to inform management of the project; 2) Facilitating sharing of best practices and learning exchanges within and across landscapes and the region; 3) Coordination of the development of regional information management system and common reporting framework. The Chief of Party is responsible for project activities and coordination with the Mission and local stakeholders.

The Responsibilities of the Chief of Party include:

In collaboration with the USAID Regional Mission and the leaders of the cooperative agreements, develop knowledge sharing & learning platforms which create mutual exchange of best practices among projects and improved tools and methodologies shared under the project;
Build partnerships and collaborate with USAID’s regional counter wildlife crime and trade programs, as well as local and regional organizations working in the sector, including civil society organizations, local government units, private sector representatives, local communities, and universities and institutions;
Manage any subcontracts and grants with local partners, ensuring the quality and timeliness of deliverables;
Oversee and manage capacity building and training activities led by the project;
Build innovate partnerships and promote sustainable initiatives;
Build coalitions and networks that can provide synergies and sustainable solutions;
Administer the project’s financial oversight and procedures, ensuring compliance with accounting principles and USAID regulations;
Diplomatically supervise staff and coordinate programs with partners from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences;
Oversee performance monitoring and evaluation to ensure all project targets are met or exceeded – making recommendations for improvement in program implementation.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in business, economics, statistics, biodiversity conservation, international development, public policy, or a related field;
10 years’ technical experience in international development, with 5 years serving as Chief of Party;
Work experience in Southern Africa and understanding of wildlife networks;
Strong interpersonal and networking skills;
Experience or familiarity with coordination and institutional capacity building approaches;
Excellent oral and written English language skills.
