COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER

Recruitment of Community Liaison Officer for the Wildlife Conservation Society
Ruaha-Katavi Landscape Program

WCS is an equal opportunity employer and seeks a Community Liaison Officer for its Ruaha-Katavi Landscape Program, based in Iringa.

Essential Candidate Attributes:
Tanzanian preferred;
MSc minimum in social sciences and/or development related disciplines;
Fluency in spoken and written English and Swahili;
At least 5 years leading community development programs with recognized partners. (experience from the Ruaha-Katavi landscape an advantage). Proven track record leading successful grass roots focused community conservation approaches;
Deep practical understanding of the WMA approach in Tanzania and experience of similar approaches in Africa a distinct advantage;
Excellent communication, technical reporting and planning skills;
Significant experience in finance management;
Highest level of integrity, honesty and sense of responsibility;
Ability to work under pressure and to deadlines;
Valid driving license and extensive 4WD experience;
IT literate and familiar with various reporting and statistical software packages.

Overview of Main Terms of Reference
Coordination of continued work in establishing and operationalizing three WMA’s as well as engagement with an established WMA;
Oversight of WMA needs assessment & resulting training;
Leadership in the development of socio-economic, governance and attitude related baselines to monitor impact of our WMA work;
Oversight of periodic WMA management monitoring exercises and support data collation and reporting/sharing of this information;
Support to team creation for ecological monitoring within WMA’s;
Oversight of boundary demarcation within WMA’s;
Oversight of WMA office construction process (tenders, construction milestones etc);
Support to assessment of new WMA’s (Ubende)
Liaison with the Authorized Association Consortium;
Support to the development of focused education and awareness activities;
Support to implementation of questionnaire surveys to assist with landscape planning and resultant partner planning;
HWC- support to prioritization in terms of geographic focus, partner liaison and mitigation development/feedback;
Liaison with communities in the planning process for developing management options for areas of high conservation importance;
Liaison with relevant local partners involved in HIV/AIDS awareness and family planning and female reproductive health
Oversight of satellite conservation centre establishment, recruiting staff, training, establishing business incubators and community training programs all linked to the promotion of cultural heritage related tourism;
Complete any other tasks as requested by the Program Director.

Remuneration:
A competitive remuneration package will be offered to the successful candidate.
